From the NY Post, do you guys remember Fantasia who won American Idol? In her book, you can see she said that she's illiterate. Makes her winning even sweeter. She was good. See below to read more and perhaps buy the book. I think it is stories like these that endear American Idol to us...just be able to sing. March 23, 2006 -- 'AMERICAN Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino will be the subject of a new Lifetime movie, the cable network said yesterday. The film will deal with her overcoming an adolescence in which she endured sexual abuse, poverty and illiteracy. Barrino is expected to play herself in the film. Barrino won the third season of "Idol" two years ago and was nominated for four Grammy awards this year. Her first album, "Free Yourself," went double platinum in 2004. Last year she released her memoir, "Life is Not a Fairy Tale" (which she dictated to a freelance writer). In it, she revealed that she is functionally illiterate. Since winning "Idol," she has been learning to read through private tutors.

This is a really touching story. I think I heard Fantasia talk about it in a TV interview. People like her are the reason we watch American Idol!!!!

well, Fantasia really did inspire me. Paris is so like he; that's is why I support Paris. I like her to win. I hope America wouldn't ostracize Paris just because she is black. They, too, have the right to win..Love you Paris and Fantasia!

ParisFan, I agree with you. I loved Fantasia on Idol and I like Paris too. Regardless, I think they both have a bright future. I just can't see Paris winning American Idol this season. But I do think that she'll get picked up by a music producer. Just check out X's TVj session- he's a grammy winning Producer, and he said that he would produce Paris. The session is in the American Idol threads. But if Kellie Pickler had outlasted Paris then we know something is definitely wrong!! ![]() What is life without TV???
