When you're more or less rebooting a beloved series, movie the setting from the west to the east coast, and totally dissolving the biggest and most important set your show has ever owned, you're going to have a lot new cast members. 24 has had an incredibly busy summer, whether it be trying to figure out what exactly season is going to be, or hiring an almost entirely new, full cast. The only returning cast members are Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O'Brian. Today, it was announced that FOX would be bringing on John Billingsley (The Nine) and Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt) for season 7 of 24.
John Billingsley has been somewhat of a scene-stealer throughout his career, especially in last season's short-lived, but well-received The Nine. He's going to be playing a character named “Latham”. That is the only available information on the character, which leads me to believe that Billingsley will be portraying a bad guy. Latham just sounds like an evil bastard name, doesn't it? Jeffrey Nordling, on the other hand, will be playing an FBI Agent named Larry. There have been a lot of new FBI Agents cast this summer. How many FBI Agents does it take to catch Jack Bauer?
Janeane Garofalo, Rhys Coiro, and Nordling are all now cast as FBI agents. I could be wrong, but the plot for season 7 of 24 is coming into focus. Jack Bauer is going to be chased by FBI agents for some of the season and, in all likelihood, those same FBI agents will eventually team up with Jack to thwart an evil plan. I hope this isn't the case, because if I can accurately predict next season of 24, it means that the producers will not have done what they promised: get away from the formulas and patterns that have permeated the first six seasons.
Regardless, Billingsley and Nordling are nice additions to any cast.
