Default Kiefer arrested for DUI

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Tuesday on misdemeanor drunken driving charges after failing a field sobriety test, police officials said.

Kiefer Sutherland attends a Fox casino party Monday in Los Angeles, California.

The actor was pulled over at about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles after officers spotted him making an illegal U-turn, said Officer Kevin Maiberger.

Sutherland, 40, tested over the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, Officer Karen Smith said.

He was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to Sheriff's Department records.

Maiberger said Sutherland was scheduled to appear in court October 16.

Sutherland won a best actor Emmy award last year for his performance on the Fox TV series "24." The series is set to return to the air in January.

Thats too bad. We all like to think our favorite actors are perfect, but they aren't. Drinking and driving is so bad, I don't understand why people do it butr I know SOOO many who do, its unbelieveable.

Drinking and driving is one of those inexcusable things that most of us have done from time to time--in our very early 20's. I cannot wrap my head around drinking and driving once you are old enough to really know better and certainly not when you are rich enough to afford to get home a million other ways.

Unless you are totally wasted, you usually think that you are "fine to drive", which is why you must make plans to get home before taking one tiny sip.

A little more info:

Kiefer Sutherland Popped for DUI
Posted Sep 25th 2007 8:48AM by TMZ Staff

Jack Bauer isn't untouchable after all.

TMZ has learned that "24" star Kiefer Sutherland was busted on suspicion of DUI in West Hollywood last night, after allegedly blowing more than twice the legal limit of .08. This is the actor's second DUI in the past five years -- he was arrested in 2004. By California law, if he's convicted, he must serve a mandatory minimum of five days in jail.

Police sources tell TMZ 40-year-old Sutherland was pulled over around 1:35 AM PST on the corner of La Cienega and Beverly. Sutherland was at the FOX Fall Eco-Casino party at Area nightclub earlier that evening. The photo in this story was taken at the event.

Sutherland, who was stopped after making an illegal U-turn, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and transported to the Hollywood Police station. He was booked at 4:09 AM and released at 5:42 AM on $25,000 bail.

We're told Sutherland was "cooperative and mellow" while he was in custody.

According to the L.A. Sheriff's Dept. website, the actor is 5'10" and weighs 150 lbs.

Sutherland is scheduled to face a judge on October 16.

A rep for Sutherland could not immediately be reached for comment.

I agree with Terri. It's so stupid when celebrities get popped for a DUI. You can afford to have someone else drive you home. Kiefer, use your brain.

$25,000 for bail? I'd rather stay in there. XD

Everyone knows not to drink drive, yet they still do it.
No wonder when the punishments are so lame. 5 days?
Why even bother trying to get a conviction?

if he's convicted he faces a mandatory 5 days but could also face up to 18 months due to violating his probation and other instances
